Simon Brown Benefit Newsletter

Simon's Benefit Year was launched in February with a Black Tie Corporate Dinner at the Riverside at which David Graveney and Harold Tavroges were the speakers. There has also been a Dinner, sponsored by Don Robson with Geoff Cook and Alan Fox as the speakers, and a Members' Supper, with a panel of new Coach Martyn Moxon, new Captain Jon Lewis and Simon.

A Souvenir Brochure containing articles about Simon by many well-known people in cricket is now available from the Club Shop, together with an attractive Benefit tie. I'm sure that many of you will want to show your appreciation of an outstanding, big-hearted Durham-born cricketer, who has always given 100%. All donations are welcome. Please make cheques or postal orders payable to The Simon Brown Benefit Committee.

Events being planned include golf days; a cricket match between Hartlepool FC and Darlington FC at Hartlepool on 4th July; Benefit matches at local clubs and a Race Day at Newcastle on 8th August. There is also a competition called the Wicket Wizard, details of which are in the Brochure, as well as a competition being promoted by Tom Moffatt in support of Simon's Benefit. For more information on these and other coming events, please contact David Martin or his Secretary, Marjorie Towers, at H J Banks on 01740 658 500, or visit the Simon Brown Benefit website at www.simonbrownbenefit.com.

The Committee also hopes to be able to have collections for Simon at selected Durham matches, including at the Sunday League game between Durham and Glamorgan on 8th July, which is Simon's Benefit Match. We would be grateful for offers of help. If you would like to help with collections or have any ideas for fund-raising or can help in any other way, please leave your name and address or phone number at the Club Shop.

Please help us to make Simon's Benefit the success he deserves.
