Cricket Coaching

Durham Cricket Board - Winter Coaching Programme 2000/2001

Fulfil your Potential

There is a Cricket Coaching Course happening near you this winter. If you are new to the game and want to learn more, if you play at school or at a club and want to work on your skills, or if you think you could play for Durham County at youth team level there is a Coaching Course designed for you.

Paul Collingwood started his cricket career playing and practising on these courses you could follow in his footsteps. Durham Cricket Board has organised a programme of coaching at three different ability levels, across the County, this winter thanks to Sports Lottery Funding.

For Beginners: 24 for the 12 week course
In every Local Authority District an Under 12 and an Under 14 'Introduction to Cricket Course' will be run indoors. This course will be all about fun and playing games, ideal for people new to the game. The Courses will be staffed by Durham Cricket Board Level 1 and Level 2 qualified coaches. They will be 12 weeks long and will introduce and develop the basic skills of the game; batting, bowling, catching, fielding and throwing.

For Players wishing to Play for a Club
There are 108 Cricket Clubs in Durham of which 80 cater for cricketers under 18 years old in junior sections. If you wish to play for one of these clubs contact the Development Officer at the number below to find out where your local club is and when they are holding junior practice.

For players of proven ability and prospective County Players: 24 for the 12 week course
Local Authority Districts join together to form Areas. The best players from local cricket clubs and schools will join the 'rest' of the previous seasons county squad for 8 weeks indoor and 4 weeks outdoor of more specialised coaching. This area squad will form a team that will play off against the other areas in Durham at May term. From this festival the County Squad will be selected.
