Playing for Success Education Centre

Playing for success was launched at the Riverside in April 2001. The 'state of the art' classroom helps hundreds of children learn literacy and numeracy as well as IT.

The initiative offers young people in both County Durham and Wearside the opportunity to study after school hours in a new and exciting venue. Playing for Success is a national education initiative aimed at raising attainment in numeracy and literacy in Key Stages 2 & 3.

Centre Manager, Sue Atkinson, says: "This is a ground-breaking initiative, with the cricket club providing a motivating and exciting venue for young people. We are pleased to be working in partnership with the Club and are grateful for its support."

Bill Midgley, Chairman of Durham CCC, says: "We are keen to attract all sections of the community to the Riverside and to get maximum use of the tremendous facilities here. I am sure that the children will be stimulated by their surroundings and get real benefit from the whole experience of having a classroom in such an unusual setting."
