Durham Demonstrate The 100 MPH Ball

Durham's Riverside Ground could be the first in the world to see a cricket ball bowled at 100 miles per hour.

The opportunity comes on Saturday June 16th next year when the two current fastest bowlers in the world face each other in a One-Day International. Shoaib Akhtar of Pakistan and Brett Lee of Australia have a real chance of breaking the record on the fastest pitch in England.

Tickets for the match, which is a repeat of last years World Cup Final are now on sale to the general public. To mark the build-up to one of the most exciting contests to be staged in the North East Durham showed pupils at Fyndoune School just what it's like to face a cricket ball travelling at 100 mph.

The club set up its own high speed bowling machine and Durham fast bowler Neil Killeen together with Cricket Development Officer John Windows took a coaching session.

Tickets are priced at 25 for adults and just 5 for the Under 16's. They are available from Ticketmaster on 0191 401 8888 the Club on 0191 387 1717 (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday)
