World's Fastest Set for Riverside

Shoaib Akhtar, the World's fastest bowler, will be appearing at Durham's Riverside Ground in August, it has been confirmed.

Akhtar, whose bowling has been clocked at almost 100mph, will be representing the Lashings World XI team against Durham on Wednesday August 7th, following a pay dispute with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The pay dispute regarded Akhtar's frustration at not being able to earn fees from playing both county cricket and Internationals, a luxury others were being able to enjoy, insiders claim. The PCB Chairman was not pleased with his argument and allowed him to go to England and earn money playing club cricket for Lashings.

Akhtar, nicknamed 'the Rawalpindi Express', was ruled out of next months Tangiers triangular tournament in Morocco, between Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa, amidst contrasting reports. Whilst Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed claimed Akthar was carrying an injury, his brother Shahid denied such an injury existed.

Durham's 'Pro For a Day' competition is offering one lucky winner the chance to play against Shoaib and the rest of the Lashings team for Durham. For more information visit www.proforaday.co.uk.

Capacity for the game at Chester-Le-Street will be limited to 5,000 and tickets are expected to go quickly. Prices are £10 adults, £5 U18s. Ticket hotline 0191 387 1717.
