Universal Kwik Cricket Festivals

Darlington Cricket Cub will host the fifteenth Durham Cricket Board Universal Kwik Cricket Festival on Wednesday.

The 26 festivals have or will take place throughout the North East, from Hartlepool to Blyth, enabling over 5,000 children from over 300 schools to enjoy cricket at a ground close to their school. The children are of primary school age and each festival will welcome over 300 kids.

The festivals are part of a unique sponsorship by Universal Building Society. The sponsorship was matched pound for pound by Sportsmatch, which covers the costs of running the festivals. The Universal Building Society took the next step of 'corporate volunteering'.

Universal Building Society staff have been assisting at all festivals in scoring, umpiring, collecting results, directing teams and presentations of prizes. The staff were trained prior to the event and play a huge role in the smooth running of the day.

Nick Brown, Cricket Development Officer, said: "Thanks to Universal Building Society and the assistance of staff we have been able to attract more schools than ever to take part in cricket for the first time and show how much fun it can be."
