Winter Skills Courses for Durham's Young Cricketers

Durham's aspiring young cricketers are being given the chance to hone their skills during the long winter months with a series of courses provided by Durham County Cricket Club's players and coaches.

Ten cricket skills sessions will be held at Fyndoune School in Sacriston every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting on October 3rd. Each week the session will concentrate on different skills … from "Turn and Burn" - which teaches spin bowling techniques - to "Hit It Harder" - the art of hitting fours and sixes.

The session will cost £2 each and will be open to boys and girls aged between 10 and 15. Former England opening batsman Geoff Cook, who is Academy Director at Durham, and John Windows, who is the Assistant Academy Coach, will be taking each session with guest appearances from Durham players.

Geoff Cook says: "Many top cricketers go abroad to keep up their skill level during the winter but we hope to be bringing a bit of sunshine to youngsters who enjoy the game and want to get a bit better."

Anyone who is interested in taking part in any of the sessions should contact John Windows on 0191 3871717 for more information.
