Arnott Commercial is new Durham Sponsor
Durham have attracted a major new team sponsor for the new season and it is one of their closest neighbours.
Arnott Commercial is based at Morton House at Fencehouses which is just over the River Wear from the Riverside ground. It is investing a substantial five figure sum in the club for the coming season which will see the team playing in the First Division of the PPP Healthcare County Championship.
The leading commercial insurance agency will use the sponsorship to market its Sportsnet product which already has dozens of clients among the North East?s sports clubs.
As a result the name Sportsnet will appear on the front of all Durham's 'whites' with Arnott Commercial on the sleeve. Newcastle Breweries will continue to be the club sponsor.
Durham Chairman Bill Midgley says: "We are delighted that Arnott Commercial have come on board as our 2000 team sponsor.
?We are looking forward to a successful partnership with a local company who have shown their commitment to Durham and to cricket in the North East.
"Everyone is looking forward to the season with First Division cricket and international cricket at Riverside and a new sponsor on board has come at just the right time."
As a result of the sponsorship deal the multi-million pound Riverside ground is now insured by Sportsnet which provides a fully inclusive policy for all sports clubs who have their own facilities.
Gerard O'Connor, Arnott Commercial's Managing Director, says: The Riverside ground is certainly our biggest cricket policy in the North as well as the most prestigious.
"Many smaller clubs in the area have Sportsnet cover and this is our way of putting something back into local sport through a club which plays at the top level, but which also has developed links with every cricket club in the region. It also prides itself on developing local talent."
Notes to Sports Editors: Durham play in whites in the following competitions - Benson & Hedges Cup, NatWest Trophy and PPP healthcare County Championship.
Durham were promoted to the first division of the PPP healthcare County Championship last season. The new season starts on Saturday 15 April when Durham play Yorkshire in the Benson Hedges Cup.
