Michael Gough Signs as Full-Time Professional

Michael Gough will become the first Durham Cricket Academy player to become a full time professional when he signs a three-year contract at the Riverside on Wednesday. Gough, who is 18 and from Hartlepool, was offered the contract after an excellent season in the Academy's first season in the Durham Senior League and a series of impressive innings in the England Under '19 team which has just returned from South Africa after winning the World Cup. Geoff Cook, Durham's Cricket Executive, said: "I am delighted that Michael has committed himself to a career at Durham and feel sure that if he maintains his progress he will be very successful. "It is not only his performances on the pitch which have earned him the chance but also his all round approach to the game. This was clearly shown when he was judged to be the fittest player when the Under '19 squad was tested before leaving for South Africa." Gough is an opening batsman as well as an off-spinner.
